Is Crissy Phillips really ready to meet the son she gave up for adoption almost 13 years ago? She’s punished herself with guilt for giving him up, but Brandon’s adoptive mother thinks it is past time and wants her to be a part of his life.
Brandon’s adoptive uncle, Josh Daniels is the one fortunate enough to help ease Crissy’s mind, cheer her on, and basically hold her hand when she meets Brandon. All of which comes with a bonus; Crissy is the first woman in the year’s since his wife passed away who makes him feel alive, makes him want again.
The feeling is definitely mutual; they enjoy each other’s company and make each other laugh, so there’s only one outcome. A hot and heavy and no strings affair. One that leaves Crissy pregnant and Josh loaded with guilt for caring about another woman. It just could be there are too many issues to overcome for them to find happiness…with each other.
I enjoyed the time spent with Crissy and Josh, being a backseat cheerleader. They fit so well together, their dialogue/banter crisp and light, seemingly spontaneous and not written or choreographed by the author. The supporting characters blended in well with Crissy and Josh and their story.
I just have one complaint. The resolution came quickly making it feel as if the book ended abruptly. An epilogue would have given the reader the perfect end of the book sigh moment. Especially as this was the last of the Positively Pregnant series. But I suppose it’s better to leave the reader wanting more, hmm?, than with too much.
Susan Mallery’s Her Last First Date is a witty, light, fun, emotional, and sensual story. It’s a book that can be enjoyed at the beach, on a rainy day, anytime at all.
