Gavin and Hannah meet at a young age. She’s run away and comes upon Gavin in a loch. Instantly Hannah fancies him and Gavin feels protective of her not knowing they are from warring clans. He is prepared to find out what clan she’s from and take her home, though as he said he’d have to kill her if she was from the Campbell clan she’s determined he not find out she is a Campbell. Before he can take her home or kill her, a huge commotion interrupts his plan. His father is being attacked. Rushing to his father’s aid he is subsequently injured and left for dead, as is his father, the chief of their clan.
Years later Hannah’s brother makes arrangements to hand-fast her to Gavin and extracts a particular promise from him. (Sorry, can’t tell) Hannah, sure that Gavin will remember her, sure that they will immediately live a happily married life, is happy with the arrangement. But, Gavin doesn’t remember, and that throws a kink into Hannah’s plans.
Through twists and turns, the ensuing days play out differently than both Gavin and Hannah had planned. Things happen (Sorry, can’t tell again), misunderstandings arise to cause the hero and heroine to butt heads. Conclusions are drawn between the characters, but are dispelled in a timely manner.
The hero is fascinated, no matter how unwillingly, by Hannah. Against all he has vowed, Gavin wants to protect her, he desires her, and he finds that he needs her. He’s also tortured by the brutal death of his father, of all that happened on that day so long ago. But all is not as it seems to that end.
And as for the heroine, I found it refreshing to come across one who could hold her own, while being un-rude, un-condescending, un-hateful, and un-selfish. With all those "un’s" you’d think she was a milquetoast maiden. Far from it. Hannah was likeable right from the start. Hooray for Lori!
Both Gavin and Hannah captivate the reader each in their own way. Their chemistry fairly sizzles. The secondary characters are just as intriguing as the hero and heroine with a couple of them playing key roles in the mix.
Through it all, a few surprises, things I wasn’t expecting, situations Hannah got into, Gavin’s road to reform, and opening himself up to love, I took great pleasure in Lori’s book. Highland Honor tugged at my heart, and made me smile.
I highly recommend you curling up with Highland Honor. The characters will capture your heart while you're being swept away to another time and place.
