Princess Zarabeth of Nuengaria is in danger after warning her
cousin, the ruler of her country, of her husband's plan for his death.
Zarabeth's cousin sends her to Scotland to be under the protection of
Egan MacDonald, the MacDonald Laird. Zarabeth saved Egan's life, when
she was a very young girl, after he collapsed in a ditch. Zarabeth has
loved Egan ever since that day. Unfortunately, Egan doesn't feel worthy
of Zarabeth, because all he has to offer is a crumbling castle and a
boisterous family.
Highlander Ever After is a lively Scottish, historical romance which contains humor, adventure, and some paranormal elements. When Egan played the wild highlander, in an effort to throw the husband-hunting debutantes off the scent, I laughed out loud. The efforts to capture Zarabeth, lend an air of adventure and suspense, which permeates the story and makes for a thrilling read. The paranormal aspects are associated with Zarabeth, who can read most peoples thoughts, her shapeshifting bodyguard, and the curse on Egan's family. Egan is a big, burly Scotsman with a wicked sense of humor, who loves his family and protects them. I loved the interactions among the family, and Zarabeth comes to love Egan's family and feels like she has come home, but convincing Egan of that fact is difficult.
Highlander Ever After is a must read for lovers of the romance genre. It is my favorite book of the year and gets a spot on my keeper shelf.
