Emmy Harris’ father has given her an ultimatum. Either she marries by Christmas (3 days away) or he will pick a husband for her. At the age of 22, her father has deemed her a burden and wants her married off. With her best friends, Ginger & Lizzy, helping her, they can only come up with two prospects. Lord Winchelsea or Logan Abernathy who is Lizzy’s brother and the only man to break Emmy’s heart. Her heart has been breaking since that fateful day last August when Logan kissed her senseless, promised to return, then disappeared and never came back.
Emmy makes the wise mental decision and sets her sights on Lord Winchelsea. Does it really matter that she only feels indifference for him? He respects her and will treat her well. How come her crazy heart beats a little faster whenever Logan enters a room?
In a star-crossed-lovers sort of way, Emmy and Logan have to work through the minefield of their past and their own feelings to determine their futures. Can Em ever learn to trust Logan—or any man—again? Will Logan ever decide what he wants and examine his feelings? Can he figure out what his feelings are? Does he have an extreme case of lust, or is there more to it?
I found this book to be a refreshing diversion on a snowy winter day. It’s a perfect Christmas love story that will warm hearts not only at Christmas, but also all year long. It’s the kind of story that helps renew your faith in mankind and with a gentle nudge, reminds us that miracles really do happen.
Ms. Becher has set up the book to tie into a sequel. It looks like it will be another great story. If she’d also write Lizzy’s story, we’d have a perfect trilogy of love stories.
