Tahir Al’Ramiz is living the life of a playboy, jet-setting from Monte Carlo to Tunisia to Moscow to New York. He had left behind his life in the Middle East to make it on his own, starting with nothing and making millions in his deals. Even with all of the excitement of making the next deal, playing for high stakes on the gambling tables, moving from one gorgeous woman to another, Tahir felt empty. Nothing seemed to reach him any longer, until the sense of dread when he was called home. His father was dead and his brother asked him to come to his coronation. Tahir couldn’t refuse.
Annalise Hansen is living with a foot in many worlds. Her mother was from Qusay but her father was Dutch. He had come there to share his medical experience and fell in love with the area and her mother. He had brought his daughter up with a love for the world and provided her with many experiences. She was lost without him now as she was deciding what to do with the rest of her life. Needing some time alone after his death, she was in the desert to watch a comet. The peace of the spot was shattered when a handsome man in a tuxedo came over the dune. He had obviously been injured and was delirious. She couldn’t turn him away.
When Tahir awoke without much memory, Annalise got to see a man with his guard completely down. As he regains his memory and returns to his home, Annalise has to find a way to breakdown that wall that arose once again.
Annie West has really created a powerful study of human characteristics in these 184 short pages. Tahir is dealing with an abusive childhood from his father and being banished from his home. Annalise is struggling with being different and yet trying to figure out where she belongs. Two lonely souls are coming together to help each other heal, partially even without their knowledge. I enjoyed the strong-willed characters with deep reserves of gentleness. Of course, the passion that flared between them was also a tantalizing part of the journey.
