Darcy McDaniel's life is turned upside down, when her husband
empties out all their accounts, sells their house out from under her,
and flees the country after embezzling money from his company, Darcy, a
trophy wife, is forced to move in with her parents at their trailer park
in a working class neighborhood, until she can find another rich man to
take care of her. Darcy is further traumatized, when John Stark tries
to repossess her beloved Mercedes. At first, Darcy outsmarts John, but
he is persistent and takes the car. Later, Darcy goes to John's repo
shop to pick up her belongings, that were left in her car. While there,
one of John's employees suggests, that he hire Darcy as his
receptionist. After Darcy sees that she has few job prospects, in
desperation, she returns to John's shop and takes a job as the
receptionist. Darcy and John are oil and water, will they be able to
find happiness together?
Hot Wheels and High Heels is an amusing contemporary romance. At first, I feared, that I wouldn't like Darcy. However, after seeing how Darcy was raised, I began to understand her better. Darcy is a complex character, who slowly begins to realize how empty her life as a trophy wife has been. I loved John! He is a big, grumpy ex-cop with a heart of gold. There are moments in the book, when he does something so adorable, that I could only sigh.
If you are looking for a great emotional read with complex characters and a sigh-inducing plot, give Hot Wheels and High Heels a try.
