The Cypress Hollow Yarn novels began just a short time ago, when this wonderfully creative author wrote, How to Knit a Love Song. In this second story, the characters are, if possible, even more fun!
We begin in the addictive town of Cypress Hollow, sitting in a bar with Lucy Harrison, her best friend, Molly, her parents, and her brothers, Silas and Jonas. This is one of the most hysterical casts in print, by the way. Silas sit’s a lot and reads quietly, only raising his head from his book every once in a great while to add a ‘grunt’ to the conversation. Jonas is the owner of The Rite Spot bar, and offers a super-clean atmosphere for people to have fun. Molly, Lucy’s friend, is an extremely adorable woman who has a lot of boyfriends. She doesn’t keep them for very long because she hasn’t found the right one. Lucy’s mom and dad are the most hysterical! Mom has many…um…activities that Dad helps her out with, and readers will literally fall off their chairs when she 'speaks.'
As they’re sitting in the bar knitting - which is Lucy’s favorite activity - a crash thunders outside and Lucy rushes to help. You see, Lucy is a volunteer with the fire department and ambulance squad, and she is always trying her absolute best to help people in need.
When she sees the car she almost faints, knowing that a friend of hers - a pregnant friend - is trapped inside. She tries desperately to open the shattered door before the small flame she sees takes out everyone on the street. Out of nowhere, a man rushes up and helps Lucy save the day. But this is no ordinary savior - this is Owen Bancroft.
Lucy can barely breathe. Owen was the requisite bad-boy of Cypress Hollow, and he was also Lucy’s first kiss, first true love, and a man who she simply never got out of her heart. He’s an ex-cop now, returning home to help his mother who has Alzheimer’s, and Lucy can barely think straight.
As the plot gets going, Lucy ends up offering Owen the cottage located behind her bookshop as a rental while he’s in town. Not only that, but the feelings of the past go from a warm simmer to an all-out raging inferno between the two of them. Add in a box of ‘old books’ that Owen brings into her shop to sell that, when opened, contains a true ‘treasure’ that will change Lucy’s future, and this lovely story because an all-out fantastic read!
I, for one, can’t WAIT for the next Cypress Hollow series. I hope this author writes for a very, very long time! Enjoy!
Until next time, Amy
