Drake is a vampire, who kills only very bad humans. Because of this characteristic, Drake is unique among the Guardians of Philadelphia, a group of vampires who fight killer vampires. When tensions between Drake and some of the other Philadelphia Guardians escalate, the leader of the Philadelphia Guardians sends Drake to work with the Baltimore Guardians. Drake has only been in Baltimore a short time, when the leader of the Baltimore Guardians disappears. Unfortunately, a delegation of strong killer vampires from Europe arrives in Baltimore in search of their leader's daughter, and Drake must step up to lead the Baltimore Guardians to try and save these young, inexperienced vampires. Among the delegation is Faith, a non-killer and the concubine of the delegation's Seigneur, Armand. Faith only stays with Armand, because he has control of her sister, who is still human. Faith hopes that Drake will help them both escape Armand's clutches.

Hungers of the Heart is an exciting, paranormal romance with a tortured hero and heroine and non-stop action. Drake has done some horrendous things, in order to survive, but he is trying very hard to become a better, more moral, being. Drake is a very tortured, redeemable hero, who has to make some very tough decisions and is sometimes on the precipice of going down a very dark way. Faith is, also, very tortured and has only lived in a terrible situation, in order to protect her sister. When Drake enters Faith's life, she experiences hope and love again. This story is action-packed from beginning until end and gives a rip-roaring adventure with plenty of romance.
