Connor Faraday needed someone to re-design his cottage on the island but Ellene Bordini did not think she was the woman for the job. Definitely did not think this! However, Connor felt she was just right as did her father. Ellene is not sure who she is more surprised by – her father or Connor. After years ago, they had been on the verge of marriage only for the relationship to dissolve and him to marry another woman. It didn’t even take him much time to find that other woman.
The fact that Connor didn’t seem to grieve much for the lost relationship before moving on and that the one other man she gave her heart to left her after she gave him the rest of her, Ellene’s confidence level isn’t real high right now.
Connor, on the other hand, hasn’t exactly had things easy either. Connor still doesn’t understand why Ellene broke things off nor why she is still so angry given that she is the one who called it quits. He married on the rebound, to say the least, and while he tried with his wife, it never really seemed to click. The only good thing left of the marriage after her death was their child Caitlin. Even that is a struggle these days, however, as Caitlin has become a real behavior problem.
Ellene is determined to keep things strictly professional and while Connor didn’t really want that he was equally determined to give her that space. That is until Mother Nature stepped in. After taking the ferry across to the island to meet with Connor and Caitlin, the weather took a major turn for the worse keeping Ellene on the island for days with no where to stay but Connor’s. Is this God’s way of telling them something??
I really enjoyed the characters created in Connor and Ellene. Isn’t it amazing how both people in a disagreement can begin to feel as if they are the only ones wronged in the argument? Sometimes it takes quite a bit of time and effort to work through the issues only to discover you were the one who was wrong all along? Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying Connor was all right and Ellene all wrong or vice versus. But I loved the journey they each took to find where things had gotten off track and how that travel could be corrected.
I think my two favorite characters, however, were Connor’s aunt and Ellene’s father. Both of these individuals could see these two still have very deep feelings for each other and just needed some time to spend together to see it for themselves. However, they didn’t push but just talked it through and gave them a nudge here and there. The great thing too is that all of the adult’s main concern was the child – Caitlin. They discovered the difference though between spoiling and loving. Very well done and a great way of blending families.
