They’re at it again, this time in Australia. To find another clue, it’s going to be risky. Dan Cahill, 11, and his sister Amy Cahill, 14, hide out until they can get a plane to the "Land Down Under." They ditched their first class seats after seeing yet another one of their enemies. It’s like there are traps everywhere. Dan, Amy, and their Au Pair, Nellie, go on an adventure to find a long lost uncle, find out how to surf away from 200 pound attackers, and how to get out of falling into a sea full of sharks. There’s plenty of adventure in the story, only it’s barely for a good cause.
First, they go on a flight that seems to take a million hours. After getting off the plane, they get on a bus that seems to take forever to get to their stop. There’s a nice lady on the bus. It’s obvious she travels a lot due to the travel book in her backpack that she keeps hitting Amy with. Amy is forgiving because it was only an accident. They hop off the bus in front of a museum. In case you don’t know, Dan’s definition for museum is: Boring place we never get out of. Then, Amy’s necklace is gone. She loved that necklace. It was the last memory of her grandma, Grace. It all goes downhill when she follows somebody who traps her. The only thing she really finds out is that Ian and Natalie Kabra are here and this time, they brought Isabel, their mom.
Memories of a dreaded fire later come to Amy. The fire had killed her parents. Slowly but surely, she’s remembering bits and pieces. Starting off with five people being mean to her mom and dad, to the fact that her parents died looking for something the guy they were living with for a few days had stolen. Then they find out Nellie is hiding something. It’s all too much for Amy and Dan. Secrets untold, families undone. They might not manage and just give up and go home. Will they keep going?
I felt that the story was very moving. There were times where I laughed out loud and times were I cried for a few minutes. The characters are well written and easy to relate with. It’s kind of strange to think how they are related. I feel that it did get a little more violent in this story. It wasn’t high but it was still kind of violent in a few places. A couple new characters added and a secret is revealed that just won’t leave my head. I like to read these kinds of cliffhangers. Find out what happens to Dan and Amy and discover if they will keep going on towards the prize in The 39 Clues: In Too Deep.
