Lili Goodweather has the ability to talk with animals. She’s always been able to help the animals and their owners, but this time it’s different. This time it will not only put her in danger, but it will change her life as well as that of her new neighbor, Tanner Rutland, and his family.

Erika, Tanner’s daughter, is worried about her cat. Fluffy’s behavior has become unusually skittish. Grandpa Roscoe didn’t think it would hurt to have Lili talk to Fluffy, after all if it made Erika and Fluffy feel better then what’s the harm?

When Tanner learns that Lili is convinced Fluffy has witnessed a murder he thinks she’s, well, a bit off her rocker, but wow, is he ever attracted to her. One thing leads to another and Tanner finds himself searching the woods for a body with Lili. A body he’s convinced isn’t there…until the buzzards start to circle and swoop.

From then on Tanner’s world is turned upside down. He’s not sure Lili didn’t orchestrate the situation to get attention. He’s not sure the direction his parenting has taken is the right one after seeing Lili interact with Erika. He’s not sure he can live without Lili, nor is he sure he can live with her.

Lili, a big believer in magic, tries to bring magic to both Tanner and Erika’s lives. But in doing so finds her heart bruised and broken more than once. She’s fallen hard for Tanner, but if he doesn’t believe in her or magic…

Not only did I smile, hold my breath, and feel warm inside, I actually got a lump in my throat a time or two while reading Lili and Tanner’s story. I enjoyed the evolving relationships, the mystery, and the romance.

It Must Be Magic is perfect. From the characters and the magic swirling around them (whether they believed or not) to the tastefully done bedroom scenes to the intrigue surrounding them, it couldn’t be better.

Jennifer Skully once again brings her brand of magic to the reader.
