A rejected son plans to win his dying father's approval by recovering an heirloom necklace gambled away by the father years ago under suspicious circumstance. Bent on revenge against the man he's convinced acquired the necklace through cheating, Calum MacAllister never thought his chief obstacle would be the cheater's gorgeous and gutsy daughter.
Jeweled Seduction has more twists and turns than a mountain road. I found the suspense was enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Ms. McPhee writes a very interesting story that will hold the readers attention and keep you guessing until the end.
I appreciated the amount of suspense in the book and how the plot kept thickening. A few times I found it odd that the characters couldn’t put pieces of the puzzle together, but it did make for interesting reading. Every time I thought I had a handle on how it would end, another twist was thrown in to keep me guessing.
Calum MacAllister is a truly likeable guy. Even when he’s playing the heavy, it quickly becomes apparent how deep his feelings run. He has a strength of character that is often lacking in the characters found in other books.
Valerie MacIver is the ugly duckling all grown up. She has become a beautiful and seemingly poised woman. However, she has a lot of insecurities left over from her childhood that overshadows her current success.
I really don’t want to give too much away with the plot. I enjoyed the book from start to finish. I found the first couple of chapters confusing until the story really starts to unfold. It wasn’t enough to make me want to stop reading, but I had to take a few moments to look back and reread certain facts a second time. If that initial confusion bothers you, I’d encourage you to stick with it until you have a feel for the overall storyline.
In my mind, Ms. McPhee has nicely set up a little sequel for us. I would hope that we might learn more about Valerie’s father and what happens in his life after this book ends.
