Maddie Springer’s life is finally back to normal after having almost been killed in her quest to learn the truth about her no-good lying ex-boyfriend. One good thing did come out of it. Ramirez. But he’s not called her in weeks. The no-good hottie.

Evidently normal or calm is not in Maddie’s aura as out of the blue she gets a call from the father she hasn’t seen since she was little. It’s not a normal I’m-sorry-I’d-like-to-get-to-know-you call, it’s a help-I’m-in trouble call complete with a gunshot as background music, then disconnect.

Her mother is of no help in the info dept. as far as the whereabouts of her father, Larry, go. But Marco, friend and employee of Faux Dad, helps her narrow down the search. When Ramirez finally makes an appearance, he refuses to help Maddie and forbids her from trekking to Vegas or getting involved. Perhaps Ramirez used the wrong word, as Maddie gathers her best friend, Dana (a sex maniac, and now a weapon aficionado) for a Vegas bound road trip.

Surprise! Not only does Marco throw Maddie’s mother off the "trail" of Maddie’s real destination, he decides to make it a road trip for three.

Perhaps Maddie would’ve been better off staying hidden under her covers, because nothing but chaos seems to follow.

If that didn’t get your attention, will this? Dana’s "packing". And flirting. And gambling. Marco is...well he’s unbelievable. Ramirez has been in Vegas during his no-call period. Maddie's father and his friends are aging drag queen showgirls, some of who are dying or disappearing. Someone’s tailing Maddie. Her mother finally gets wind of her true whereabouts and plasters the guilt on and arrives in town with psychic friend, Mrs. R, only to zap a member of the Mob as only a mother could, and then some. And that’s only a peek...

All the elements of a good chick lit and mystery are here. They’re ingeniously woven together creating a highly suspenseful, yet wildly entertaining story.

The characters are both off the wall and endearing with each of them bringing Maddie everything from comfort to headaches to trouble.

Killer in High Heels is also "packing" with action, hilarity, danger, almost-sex, and fashion wows and woes as its bullets. Gemma Halliday gives the reader nothing but pure indulgence and fabulous fun!
