A wonderful book that will keep you on your toes until the very last chapter. There is plenty of peril, romance and a story that is first class.
In sunny Florida, there are plenty of beautiful estates on the water that are like small villages. One such place is owned by a famous American golfer and has just come on the market. Kyle Cameron, a real estate broker, is salivating over this place and is thinking of the commission she will make if she lands the sale. In the beginning of the story, Kyle is on her way to an open house to set up some displays and think about her very good luck. Unfortunately, her good luck ends suddenly when she is stabbed to death. The authorities zero in on a serial killer that had been murdering real estate agents in another part of the state. They find and arrest this killer and, it seems, he did not kill Kyle. So, they have a real mystery on their hands.
Enter, Darby Farr, real estate broker from California. She has come to the Gulf Coast in Florida on a visit to her late aunt's business partner, Helen Near. Kyle had recently decided to join this smaller real estate firm and be Helen's new partner. She arrives the same day that Kyle is killed. Darby is enlisted by the lead detective in the case, Jonas Briggs, to help figure out the whys and wherefores of this difficult case. Darby is suspicious of the authority’s hurry to blame the notorious "Kondo Killer" for the crime. She finds that Kyle was harboring a distressing secret that could have been the reason for her murder. Some of the suspects that stand out are: Kyle's ex-husband Jack, who is suicidal and a real mess; her ex-lover, a billionaire land developer who is married to the Lt. Governor of the State of Florida; some of her friends from college that are resentful that Kyle has risen so far in the real estate world; members of her ex-husband's family (a really dysfunctional bunch); and, last but certainly not least, her former co-workers. Before this is over, there will be other murders and, of course, Darby will be put on the killer's list.
A fast-paced story that I couldn't put down. There are some great characters in this book. Some million dollar real estate deals; murder and mayhem; and a very smart heroine and, a very frightening killer. There are many twists and turns in the book and some interesting sub-plots that will keep readers busy. I loved it!!
