Finley Tanner is in big trouble. Not just with the law (as if that weren’t enough), but subsequently with her employers and her mother (perhaps the worst of the three). It’s not her fault, of course, but when Jane, one of her best friends, pounds on her door before dawn, covered in blood, and practically incoherent you can bet she’s going to help her no matter what.

Her first mistake was calling the police before Becky, their friend and lawyer, could arrive as Jane is quickly accused of murdering her date Paolo. Finley knows, though, it’s impossible for Jane to have harmed anyone, especially someone of the opposite sex. Obviously it’s a set-up. But why?

Finley is more than ready to nail someone to the wall, but her investigation is hindered before it’s even started by her employers and her mother, all who are willing to help Jane. But all of that help comes with huge stipulations and conditions.

Ok, so she’s not thrilled at being limited to when, where, and how she can investigate, and she has every intention of honoring said stipulations and conditions, yet sometimes things have a way of getting out of hand, such as having to attend a kiss-up brunch with her mother, being run off the road, assuming a flower delivery was actually flowers (how silly of her!). Oh, and getting arrested. So not her fault.

Someone’s trying to make Finley look like a suspect, an accessory in Paolo’s murder, or at the very least get her into trouble (well, that worked). If they knew her better they’d know she doesn’t shut up or back off that easily. Finley’s determination find out what’s going on behind the doors of the West Palm Beach’s elite knows no bounds. And if it means getting help from Liam, a sexy P. I. who can make Finley see red and want to throw herself in his arms at the same time, so be it. So long as she can be dressed to the nines and carry a good cup of coffee she’s ready for anything and anybody. Almost.

This turned out to be a fun and engaging read with lots of action and suspense. There was a level of intensity as Finley’s investigation took its twists and turns and the race against the clock seemed to be on. And just when you think Finley has it all together, well, something else happens to upset the order of things.

Rhonda Pollero’s plotting and characters are fun, edgy, and smart; the pacing couldn’t be better…in other words, Knock’em Dead is highly entertaining.
