Call it a fresh start or reinventing themselves, or how about saying God was busy creating opportunities for Waverly Brennan and Blake Erikson to pursue? They were each in a position in life where their jobs weren’t fulfilling anymore and/or their lives were at a standstill.
Change was called for in Waverly’s life yet the path she was trying to forge had dead ended. Until a call from her mother Vivian. Vivian and her sister Louise bought The Gallery and wanted Waverly to run it. Oh, her dream come true! To run an art gallery. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, one she jumps at even though it means a move to Martha’s Vineyard. But once there…
Blake wanted to slow down from the movie industry rat race, take stock of his life, where he’s been and where he wants to go. He not only has his own happiness and well being to consider but that of his daughter Sicily’s, too. Blake is very determined to get it right and soon, as Sicily unexpectedly comes to stay with him for the summer.
As life is wont to do, stumbling blocks litter the path Waverly and Blake are on. Blake finds himself with a surly nine year-old going on sixteen and a clingy and pushy woman (Waverly’s cousin Janice) to contend with. Waverly has another decision to make; how to deal with a huge disappointment in her life and how to make the best of it.
Each time these two meet electricity crackles between them in one way or another. Does this mean they will find peace, happiness, and contentment with each other? Could that be a part of God’s plans for their lives? It definitely seems doubtful, though God does work in mysterious ways.
With a deft and gifted stroke of the pen, Melody Carlson presents the reader with an inspirational story of how walking through the door God opens for us can infuse us with a new sense of self-confidence and awareness, and of the possibilities waiting on the horizon; that He’s offering us His best should we chose to trust Him.
Blake and Waverly are easy characters to like, as is Sicily. It’s not a bed of roses between them, but as time passes a bud or two slowly unfurls even as the stumbling blocks fall in their way.
Reading LFYI Martha’s Vineyard was entertaining and at the same time inspiring. There was an underlying sense of comfort giving the reader a chance to relax into the story.
While I was reading Ms. Carlson’s latest LFYI offering I felt as if I had been given a most pleasurable gift.
Happy reading,
Connie
