Katie Russell has always maintained control of her life, she has a plan that will give her social acceptance and respect – as long as no one finds out that the woman who bore her is a woman of the world and lady of the evening. The people she considers her parents are fine upstanding citizens of Mercy Falls and Katie is determined to do her duty to them; marry well and hold her head high.
Will Jesperson has just moved to the area as the new lightkeeper. He hadn’t been on the job long when he witnesses a ship taken by pirates and several men are killed.
In the meantime, Katie calls on her friend Eliza after overhearing a disturbing conversation between her and a familiar male voice. Katie discovers that Eliza has disappeared and Eliza’s disappearance may be connected to the piracy that Will witnessed.
Mercy Falls has fallen siege to a smallpox epidemic and the only safe place for Katie to stay is at the lighthouse. The daily contact throws Katie and Will into an agreement to work together to solve the crimes, but it doesn’t take long for their feelings to develop into something more than just a crime-solving partnership.
The deeper they dig, the more secrets are uncovered. Katie must remain in control and do her duty but her feelings for Will are getting in the way. Will is determined to fight for Katie, show her that love is so much better than duty.
What secrets come out as the mysteries unfold? Will Katie be able to forgive her biological mother for the hurt she’s suffered? Will Katie’s parents come to believe in love over duty? Will Katie be able to understand Will’s love and realize that her life’s control belongs to God?
The Lightkeeper’s Bride is full of twists and turns that keep you glued to the pages. Colleen Coble has a way of weaving mystery, danger and intrigue as well as romance, love and subtle inspiration into a story that will leave you wanting more. A swell of emotions surfaced as the mystery plot thickened, not only to discover the secrets but for Katie and Will. As soon as they were brought together I was rooting for them not only to solve the mystery but to allow love to win over duty.
If you enjoy a good mystery with romance and subtle inspiration, then the Mercy Falls novels are for you. Enjoy!
