Mibby had spent a short lifetime in love with her best friend, Scott. Their marriage had produced a wonderful son, Ky, and a tremendous amount of memories. Now that Mibby has lost Scott to a car accident, those memories carry her through each day. The downside is Ky has run out of things to eat, the laundry is piling up, and her business needs her.

Years prior, Mibby had discovered a love and a gift of growing gardens. She knew how to mix the flowers to use the best of the colors and fragrances to share with their home. When Scott suggested that their yard might be getting too full, Mibby took her passion on the road to help others in their pursuit of this same palate. Now that Scott is gone, these gardens are the only thing keeping her anchored as she struggles to figure out how to go forward.

During this process of discovery, Mibby learns more about her relationships including the one with her son, Louise - her mentor and neighbor, her clients, Blink - her dog, and a young stranger who wanders into her life and then her heart. Initially this young stranger is someone who Mibby feels will turn her life upside down and inside out but through coming to terms with this young woman, Mibby also discovers new depths within herself.

I found this book to be an adventure in reading and was delighted by it at every turn. Patti Hill uses some wonderful techniques to illustrate her book such as gardening diaries at the beginning of each chapter. The character development is so well entwined the characters seem to be people you have known your entire life.

Mibby’s journey to deeper "love" in her relationships is inspirational and moving as she becomes a better mother, a better friend, a better business person, a better Christian and, most of all, a better Mibby. This is a story of great encouragement to anyone who is looking for greater joy and fulfillment in their lives. It doesn’t give you the roadmap as each of us has our own path but it does encourage you to not give up and to look for the humor and the grace around you each day.

Very well written, Patti, and I look forward to more written works.
