Julia Cavanaugh has been in an orphanage for girls in New York City since she was eight. Sheís now in charge of the girls, assisting the headmistress. The headmistress is getting married and closing the private orphanage so Julia and the girls are sent west on the orphan train.
The last stop, Lonesome Prairie is the most painful. Shelby and Bea have been closest to her and it is difficult to say good-bye. Julia thought she was turning right around and going back to New York. But unbeknownst to Julia, the headmistress had plans for Julia; sheís to stay as a mail-order-bride! Thatís a shock that helps her miss the train.
Parson Isaac Shepherd is pleased that heís found families for all the orphans that have come to Lonesome Prairie. What is he to do with the orphanís escort? He feels responsible for her and promises to help straighten out her unwanted marriage plans.
It doesnít take long for Julia to fall in love with Isaac. His sisterís and their families have treated her as one of the family and appears they are trying to do a little matchmaking. Isaac does have feelings for Julia but his past promise to God has him second guessing these feelings.
So the Parson goes on his circuit and Julia decides to go back to New York. She canít stay around Isaac if he has no feelings for her, itís just too painful.
Through it all, Julia is learning more and more about her walk with the Lord. Even Isaac has come to realize that he hasnít fully trusted God. With their new knowledge, will Julia decide that she can stay in Lonesome Prairie, whether or not she has a life with Isaac? Will Isaac be able to trust the Lord enough to have a wife and family?
Love Finds You in Lonesome Prairie, Montana is a tender story, with a mix of intrigue, inspiration and romance. Julia and Isaacís story relies a lot on the inspirational message of trusting God for all things. Even so, it doesnít seem overly preachy giving the reader thoughts to ponder.
Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss have a nice formula for mixing all theses ingredients into a story that you canít put down. (I read this in one weekend!) Itís been fun visiting Lonesome Prairie. Iím sure youíll enjoy it as much as I did.
