Rain Tairen Soul, king of the Fey, is desperate, because the
Tairen are dying and so are the Fey. Tairen are powerful winged cats,
who are connected to the Fey. In an attempt to find an answer to his
problem, Rain seeks the advice of the Eye of Truth, which shows him a
woman. Rain travels to the mortal city of Celieria with some of his
warriors and senses the woman of his vision, who is his truemate.
Ellysetta Baristani, daughter of a woodcarver, has been plagued with nightmares most of her life but, recently, the nightmares have worsened. When Ellie takes her sisters to watch the Fey's arrival and they are knocked around by the crowd, Rain senses her fear, takes his Tairen form, and saves her. Ellie is a little afraid of Rain but deep down feels, that she can trust him. Unfortunately, the evil Mages of Eld are lurking and trying to conquer their old enemies, the Fey.
Lord of the Fading Lands is the first book in an epic fantasy romance, which drew this reader in from the first and kept my attention until the very end. I can't wait for the next book! Ms. Wilson is a great new voice in the literary word, and she weaves a great tale, which contains a unique fantasy world and a great romance between two strong characters. Ellie doesn't realize her power or her strength, but she is soon tested and has to overcome much to save herself and her loved ones.
Rain is a very tortured hero, who has the weight of his past mistakes and his people's problems on his shoulders. Rain will do anything for Ellie, but she must come to terms with her new life and realize, that she is loveable. Lord of the Fading Lands is a very enjoyable fantasy romance, which I highly recommend.
