On leaving 21st Century Boston to take up a job in England, Peter Vincent buys a 16th century jewelry box as a gift for his fiancée. He is leaving her behind. There are no regrets as they both know the engagement is over. However, on seeing the portrait of a beautiful woman painted on the lid of the j jewelry box, Peter cannot part with the antique. Even though centuries separate them, Peter knows he needs to find out more about the woman who has instantly enchanted him. What he finds out alarms him. Peter is determined to retrace the footsteps of the long departed woman he has fallen in love with at a glimpse.

Aurea of Pentrose is the face on a jewelry box. She lives in the 16th century English countryside with her Aunt Katherine and Uncle Thomas. The Pentrose’s are only too aware of the stigma and danger of religious differences in the 16th century. They want to protect their niece. In order to do this they secure a position at Queen Elizabeth Court at Hampton Court Palace. Aurea believes they are sending her to Court to find a husband. In a time of great plotting and treason, the Catholic Pentrose’s want Aurea to be happily married but they also want her to have the protection of the Protestant Queen’s Court - a protection they cannot guarantee her if the political situation changes.

In a dangerous time where to be anything but the norm can get you tried with treason, Peter and Aurea’s worlds collide at Hampton Court Palace as time parts the veil and allows them to meet. Aurea is both alarmed at and attracted to the man who magically appears before her. Is he a demon? Whilst Peter is more convinced than ever that he and Aurea are destined to be together despite time.

But danger lurks as Peter and Aurea are caught up in plots to overthrow the Queen. Is it more than just the parameters of time that will keep them apart?

I loved the part in the book where Peter and Aurea get their first glimpse of each other in the gallery. It gave me chills as their two distinct worlds collided. I could imagine it so vividly. I also liked the switching between the centuries the characters lived in as it came nearer to them meeting. It made me realize on one hand how much the world had evolved and on the other that some things never change, like love and passion. One thing I did not envy the character of Aurea was the fact that single women had no choices in life. It made me grateful I live in the times we do.

Lost Echoes is about two people who against all ‘normal’ odds of time and space are meant to be together. Its romance at it’s best. All the angst of not knowing how long Peter and Aurea will be together and if time will tear them apart. And I enjoyed the fact that the characters were described with such historical accuracy. Just by reading it I could see the 16th century - the fashion, the fervor of religious differences and the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first.

I’ll admit I love time travel romances and Lost Echoes did not disappoint. I think of you believe that love can overcome all then you will enjoy this book.
