Madman is a story that takes place in Macedonia during the Greek-Roman era and also the time in which Jesus performed miracles. The main character, Tallis, is a servant of a Greek Philosopher who sends him to find out why the school he had been financing exists no more.

Tallis finds the school abandoned. Now he has to seek the truth as to why and what happened to the scholars (students hand picked to learn there due to their intelligence). The truth leads to an extended journey and a horrifying discovery.

In his quest for the truth, he is unknowingly aided by proprietors of the inn where he is staying. They have knowledge that will help Tallis discover the secret of the "madman".

Saying anymore will give too much of the story away, so instead I'll say this...The author, Tracy Groot, has spent the time to research this time period to the point where you can see the characters and the geography of the land as if you were there yourself. You could feel as if you were part of the novel itself. The descriptive words seem to flow as I read the story. It was hard to put down.

The book contained curiosity and suspense throughout, from page one to the end. There were no parts of the story that lacked imagination or intrigue.

I do have to point out, though, that it started out a bit slow, but after I figured out there were two plots that intertwined, the story was then on a fast pace.

The Madman is extremely well written. It captivates the reader from the beginning and has a story line that doesn't fail to hold the readers attention.

I look forward to reading her other two novels Thy Brother's Keepers and Stones of My Accusers in the anticipation that they're written as well as Madman is.
