Dear Readers:
This final installment in The Seer series gets an A+ for its climatic ending. Not since my favorite, the great and wonderful Harry Potter, have I actually enjoyed ALL the books in a series. With most YA and adult series fiction there’s at least one book where it feels to the reader like the author "rested." Not so for Linda Joy Singleton; from the very first introduction of her characters to the very last page of this novel, she never once gave the reader the slightest moment to put her books down and turn on the television set. (Writers could learn from this lady.)
As we begin this finale, Sabine – our local, friendly psychic from Northern California – receives a call from her ex-boyfriend’s mother. Josh is missing and his mother is absolutely beside herself, not only about her missing son but also because her dog, Horse, won’t eat. Sabine feels terrible and begs her current boyfriend, Dominic, who has an absolute way with animals, to come with her to help Josh’s mother. He goes, of course, to help the dog.
Dominic is a young man who came to Sabine’s grandmother’s farm a while back with his falcon, Dagger. He has an affinity with animals and can somehow "talk" to them and help them with their health, well-being, and gain knowledge from the animal community. Dominic is stunning (puts old Edward to shame, gals), and the first time he appears in this book he’s riding through the forest on an Arabian gelding towards Sabine – the woman he loves.
When they reach Josh’s mother’s house everything begins to unravel. Not only has Sabine "seen" a vision of Josh cradling an ornate knife in his hands and then plunging it into his chest, but her spirit guide, Opal, has also given her information that leads Sabine to Josh’s room where she finds a strange wand with mystical powers. While there – on top of everything else – Sabine looks out the window and sees her half-sister, Jade, in the arms of Josh’s best friend, Evan Marshall, who literally despises Sabine and what she did to his friend by dumping him.
Secrets are unveiled all over the place, including why a private investigator has appeared on grandmother Nona’s property searching for Dominic; and, why Dominic’s last name is really something else entirely. When Thorn joins the mystery with her psychometric talent that allows her to touch items and tell exactly where on the map people currently are, and Penny-Love who uses Thorn to track down her ex-boyfriend who turns out to be a corpse, the story becomes so unbelievably fast-faced and fun that no reader will want to put this down.
Although I’m sad that this series has come to an end, I am extremely excited to know that starting in 2012 there will be a new series entitled Goth Girl that will star my favorite character…Thorn. The only hard part about it will be the fact that it’s going to be a long time before it arrives. If you haven’t read this series start now!!!
Until next time,
Amy
