Cecelia Burns's sister, Amy, crashes her engagement party. Now that wouldn’t be so bad if she was happy to see Amy. Or if Amy kept her mouth shut on having the ability to read people’s One True Love’s name.
That’s her gift you see. Amy can touch a person and read who their One True Love is. And though she’s promised never to tell Cecelia her One True Love’s name, she does so anyway. Much to Cecelia ‘s dismay.
She knows Amy is never wrong on this, yet she’s not interested in True Love. She’s comfortable with Jack. They’re going to buy a co-op, live the upper crust life. Besides, her childhood was painful. She watched her parents’ marriage crumble due to Amy’s gift. At least that’s what she attributed it to.
But Amy tells her, her One True Love, Finn Concord, is dying. As a Dr., Cecelia feels responsible to at least tell him he’s dying, ask him to get a check-up. That’s it. No more One True Love nonsense. She’s built herself a life apart and millions of miles away from the life she once had as a con. She’s set certain standards and criteria for herself and her life. A gorgeous, sexy carpenter does not fit the bill even though he makes her heart race.
Finn’s not too crazy about Cecelia, either. She’s everything in a Dr. that he had hoped never to encounter again after the death of his wife two years ago. Yet underneath the hard exterior there’s something compelling about her, which draws him to her like a moth to a flame, despite this One True Love nonsense.
Finn and Cecelia are total opposites. But that’s not a circumstance of birth. It’s a circumstance of Cecelia closing herself off from every aspect of her former life. Soon it becomes a battle of wills. Hers vs. his. And a battle begins within Cecelia herself. The results are yours to find out.
The poor authors. A lot of story to tell and only a certain number of words to tell it. In this instance I felt as if Diana’s allotted word count perhaps rushed her somewhat to tell her story. As if she were rushed a few times to pack in all the scenes and characters thoughts and feelings.
And I suppose I felt this way because this was a case of I wanted more! More of the story! More from the characters and scenes! Because...my attention was caught and I wanted to be even more involved in the story than I was! Because...
I really enjoyed Finn and his down to earth attitude. He’s rough and sexy and thoughtful. He loves his daughter and wants her to have a mother, but also recognizes it’s time for him to regain his life. Very nice hero.
Cecelia had turned herself into a snob and didn’t even know it, which wasn’t very becoming, and it was hard for me to like her. Until her inner confusion is brought to the reader’s attention. Then you can’t help but like and root for her.
Amy, Trudy, and Maya were great character players to Cecelia and her turmoil and at times endearing yet frustrating thorns in Finn’s side.
The attraction between Cecelia and Finn sparked like fireworks on the 4th of July. Their banter was witty yet realistic and the romance worthy of a cheer and a sigh.
Make Me a Match is clever and engaging, the storyline unique and fun. Truly, a pleasant way to spend some time.
I'm looking forward to the sequel, Sexiest Man Alive, to see what fun Diana can create with the family next.
