Alexandra Trevalyn is on the hunt for creatures that most people don’t believe exist. She is a werewolf hunter. She was once part of an elite group of werewolf hunters that her father was working for. After watching a werewolf kill her father in front of her, Alexandra has decided to go rogue. She has left the group and is now on the hunt for her father’s killer. Alexandra has no remorse for these beasts and will stop at nothing to rid the world of the werewolves. This is why she had no guilt for killing Julian Barlow’s wife.
Julian Barlow is leader of one of the biggest werewolf packs in North America. He is also on the hunt. He is hunting down his wife’s killer. His vengeance will be less merciful than the killing Alexandra does to her victims. Julian bites her and turns her into the very thing she has sworn to kill. She is now a werewolf and part of Julian’s pack. Now Alexandra is drawn into a world that she thought was evil and needed to be eradicated. She slowly finds herself drawn to Julian and the danger that is now edging closer to his pack.
I got to Lori Handeland’s Nightcreature series late in the game, but was captivated from the first chapter. Ms. Handeland has a gift when it comes to telling a story. Her characters have a great depth and evolve from what they have been taught is right to having their perception completely altered.
Alexandra is convinced that werewolves are evil and need to be eradicated until she herself is turned into one. Now Alexandra sees a whole new side of werewolves. She sees that there is both good and bad werewolves just like there are good and bad people. Most of the werewolves just want to be left in peace. Alexandra has to come to terms with this and find her own place in Julian’s world. Julian himself has to come to terms with what he has done to Alexandra. He begins to realize that his wife may not have been the right woman for him and that his attraction to Alexandra goes much deeper than he is comfortable with. If you’re looking for a mesmerizing, page-turning thrill ride, Marked by the Moon is definitely a winner.
