Meghan Yost is 19 years-of age. She is a very bright girl with an eagerness to prove to her Dad, Gideon Yost, the Bishop of their Old Order District that she is old enough and mature enough to teach in the District. She starts teaching but, just when she is gaining confidence in herself, a troubled student challenges her authority as an educator and also her patience as a human being.
Nervous strains go way up when crime comes to the Amish community and an FBI Agent, Thomas Mast arrives in the County to investigate these crimes. Meghan is afraid that she is to blame for many of the disturbing things that are happening in her community and she begins to have mixed feelings for Thomas, the Englisher who is now working with the people to stop the problems plaguing the County.
This is an eternal story of personal likes and dislikes and, also a story of a young woman seeking love, hope and a lasting faith in herself and her family. I recommend this book for all who enjoy a simple, and very human love story. If readers have ever seen the movie Witness, it might be a good time to try it. This film explains a lot about the Amish culture.
