In Marriage Terms (The Elliott’s), Barbara Dunlop reminds us through Amanda and Daniel Elliott’s engaging story that there’s love, passion, and even should be spontaneity after forty. Being over forty shouldn’t mean the end of fun and life and love--unless we let it.
Amanda Elliott has been divorced from Daniel Elliott for over sixteen years. She had all she could take of his growing pretentiousness and his family’s pressure and interference in all aspects. That, however, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have feelings for him. She just can’t live with him and what he’s become whether knowingly or unknowingly.
Suddenly he’s back in her life trying to redirect her career from all directions. This is something she’s not going to let happen again.
On the surface, Daniel believes himself when he says he’s just trying to help, to look out for Amanda. But soon it becomes clear to him that he wants something more. As in wanting to date his ex-wife. So the detailed pretentious plans begin, only to leave Daniel puzzled. He’s offering her the world and she’s not impressed, not falling all over him.
It doesn’t take long for either of them to learn important lessons from the other. But they each wonder if they’ve finally overcome the obstacles that separated them in the first place. Enough at least to have what it takes to become a couple...this time for good.
Ms. Dunlop’s lighthearted yet endearing romance left this reader satisfied. We were privy to both Amanda and Daniel’s thoughts and feelings, which gives the reader the feel of being in on the story, of seeing the bigger picture.
There didn’t appear to be any loose ends to tie up. The writing was tight and paced at the right speed. I didn’t feel as if I was hurried through the re-developing of their romance.
Reading Marriage Terms is a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours. It has the right blend of sparks, emotion, and humor.
