After enjoying Linda Lael Miller’s trilogy (High Country Bride, Shotgun Bride and Secondhand Bride) about the McKettrick brothers, I wondered if Linda would grace us with Holt’s story, the fourth and oldest brother of the solid McKettrick family. If you’ve wondered the same, it’s finally here and you’ll enjoy it as much as the others. As with the trilogy, Linda keeps her readers on the edge of their seat with this action-packed romance.

Holt McKettrick is a rugged, tough, and determined rancher who, with three younger brothers has to make sure they don’t get away with anything their not suppose to. But if a McKettrick is in trouble, all will band together to do what needs to be done. Before meeting up with his pa and brothers at the Triple M Ranch in Arizona, Holt had a life full of experiences that would serve him well. He thought he was ready to settle down and marry a mail-order bride until a rider races onto the ranch with a message from one of his best friends and fellow ex-Texas Ranger. Holt knows he has to leave for Texas and by mutual decision leaves his bride-to-be before the wedding for San Antonio. (Don’t worry; she’s taken care of as you'll find out later in the book!)

Setting fire to her wedding dress on her wedding day may not have been the best decision, but Lorelei Fellows left an impression on Holt as he rode into San Antonio. From that moment sparks flew between them every time they met.

It wasn’t long before circumstances made Lorelei and Holt neighbors. Soon the neighbors joined forces to head to Mexico to buy cattle for their ranches. As you can imagine, it was one thing after another on this cattle drive that would trigger the fireworks between them. Through it all, both Lorelei and Holt each displayed their independence and stubbornness but they learn they have feelings for each other. Can they trust their feelings and take that leap to love?

I enjoyed the story of Lorelei and Holt. There were times, as the sparks flew, that I wondered if they would really find their love. Through all the conflicts, and there were many, the bond between Holt and Lorelei grew.

I appreciated the secondary characters in this story as well. Each seemed to add to the story with just the right amount of charm. The friendships and willingness to do for each other was an inspiration. There was not anything they wouldn’t do for each other and that included Lorelei and Holt.

I appreciated Linda’s ability to paint the intimate scenes subtly, allowing me to use my imagination. One thing I was surprised at was the amount of swearing – it seemed a little more than I’ve seen lately. I would have liked the Epilogue to expand on the future of the McKettrick clan. Do you think that was done on purpose? Will there be another McKettrick book?

Thank you Linda, for giving this fan a story that was hard to put down. Romance fans everywhere will enjoy this one.
