Hi Readers,

This is the second book in the Medical Mysteries, the main character being Dr. Anna McIntyre, surgeon. This takes place in Dallas, TX at Parkland Hospital, and Dr. McIntyre is the ER surgeon.

Dr. McIntyre is working, with her chief resident on a patient that was supposedly caught in the cross fire of a gang war. He was shot in the stomach and everything seems to be going OK until the patient goes into Anaphylaxis (a massive allergic reaction) and dies. It was certainly not expected as the patient registry had this patient at an earlier time and the drug given to him was the same one given to him this time and he was not allergic to it. The patient is scheduled for an autopsy as his death is questionable. Eventually, it is found that the patient who died had had his identity stolen and that is why the medicine didn't work. When Anna is about to go and observe the autopsy she finds that there are two FDA agents in her office and they begin to accuse her of writing illegal perscriptions for large dosages of Vicodin. The agents show her the perscriptions and they do have her DEA number and signature but, she sees that the signature is forged. She is suspended from work at the hospital until this problem is solved and, to make matters worse, she finds that someone has stolen her identity and maxed out her credit cards. She is able to straighten this out with the Credit Card companies just in time to get a visit from two Dallas policemen who are after her for the illegal perscriptions. Her job and credit is in ruins and she opens an envelope to see a positive HIV test and her name is on it. Obviously someone else is living her life and ruining her in the process.

She does have two allies however, Dr. Valentine, who is the pathologist at the hospital and Ross Donovan, who signs on as Anna's lawyer. They are a threesome on a mission to solve Anna's problems and get her life back. This is not an easy task as the culprit is very smart and seems to know just what to do and when to do it to keep this identity theft going. Of course, both men have a thing for Anna and this doesn't help a lot.

This book is an excellent medical mystery. And, it's pretty scary to find out that it's not all that difficult to obtain information on others so you can get a new life for yourself. As I said at the beginning, this is part of a series and there will be another book about Dr. Anna next year. So, you will be able to find out what happens to her. Enjoy and I'll talk to you soon,
