Francesa Thorn is one of the FBI’s best profilers and is extremely good at what she does. But this isn’t the only outlet for her skill. Francesa is also a graduate of the Athena Academy and when "Oracle" calls Francesa puts the Athena Force on the front burner. There is a serial blackmailer, Arachne, at work and Francesa works to get inside this dark mind. The creator, Marion Gracelyn, of the Academy was murdered so Christine Evans is the new woman in charge.

Christine is worried about Francesa’s safety during her search for Arachne so she asks Will Evans to be her bodyguard. Will is recovering from a wound in his work with the Army. While he takes on this assignment, he isn’t too sure about what he has been asked to take on.

Francesa’s research takes her to Boston, her alma mater and hometown. Not only do things get a little dicey at the college but things are a little tense with her parents. Her mother hasn’t really accepted Francesa as an adult let alone an FBI agent, and more. Then throw Will in the mix and things get pretty chaotic, especially as they work to stay a step ahead of their enenmy.

I believe Lori May has a very imaginative mind and created a great plot. Where I struggled was the work it took to get to the plot. I could easily see the wheels of Lori’s mind moving as she created where the story was going and we knew a lot about what Francesa was thinking. However, there wasn’t enough dialogue in the piece so I had difficulty getting into the various characters’ points of view. I know this is minor but I also was jarred by the author switching back and forth from Francesa to Chesca for her heroine. In dialogue, a nickname is quite apealing because it creates greater depth in the character. In general writing as it goes back and forth, it jars the reader and makes them step out of the scene. I would have also liked to see a bit more romance and a little stronger hero.
