The weather is beginning to cool a little as autumn blows into Park County, Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains. Unfortunately, crime is heating up. The County's loan shark, Weevil Beasley dies and then the bodies start piling up, keeping Sheriff Tony Abernathy up to his hat in felony and murder.
Tony's wife, Theo, is taking her quilting group to the Lodge, a hotel in the Smokies to get ready for an upcoming wedding when a member of the quilting group is murdered. Dealing with hotel keepers, cranky quilting ladies and projects that have yet to be finished keeps Theo in a quandary. She is trying to placate everyone besides listening to gossip for her husband while trying to hand out patterns for the latest quilt to her group. All too soon, there are many acts of mischief going on in the county for Tony to deal with. There are people running around the mountains with guns blazing and others spying on them and no one seems able to behave normally.
This book is a very busy mystery including: four marriages; one of the grooms has more than one mother to contend with and a celebrity murder that puts the small town on the map both locally and internationally. A wonderful read full of many oddballs and crackpots and a lot of fun to boot.
