Hi Readers,
This book is the fourth in a series by Maureen Ash called "A Templar Knight Mystery." A very good book for historical mystery fans.
Bascot de Marins, a Templar escapes the Holy Land, after being a prisoner for eight years. He embarks on a journey to Lincoln Castle in England where the holidays always gave him hope for the future.
The town of Lincoln is covered in snow on Christmas morning and unfortunately, the snow is hiding the remains of a clerk who worked at the local mint. He was stabbed, robbed and left on the floor of a quarry. Bascot is asked to investigate the death to help the Sheriff who is busy entertaining noble guests. A gleaming, shining coin is the only clue Bascot finds. The coin has the face of King Stephen stamped on it. This King reigned over fifty years earlier. The Sheriff suspects that the killer probably has a reserve of treasure squirreled away and if they can find it the killer will be revealed. However, as Bascot investigates it seems that the motive for the killing goes beyond hidden treasure and also simple murder.
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. It is full of historic detail and fascinating characters that you will like. The main character, Bascot is very sympathetic and keeps the reader guessing until the end. This book is the first in what I hope will be a long running series of Templar Knight mysteries.
I'll talk to you soon,
Mary
