The Stonely Credit Union has been robbed, the robber shot dead before he can leave the bank, and the "look out" gone missing. Should be end of story, however, what’s mysterious about that is the pillowcase of money isn’t real money, but Monopoly money. The real money has disappeared. Someone has it. Someone orchestrated the "bank job" and from the looks of it, it could be gang related.
But something smells foul to Gertie Johnson. So she and her senior citizen Trouble Buster Investigative Service cohorts (Kitty and Cora Mae) have just put themselves on the case. After all, with temporary sheriff Dicky Snell investigating, the case is doomed from the start.
Trouble is, how are they going to work on their paid assignment (watching an alleged philandering husband) and do their sleuthing under the radar? Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Gertie is definitely going to find a way. Especially when someone is trying to frame her and the clues are weaving and intertwining from one person and destination to another.
But poor Gertie, it’s almost as if she doesn’t stand a chance of solving this case with all the "help" she gets from family and friends. One way or another though, she’s going to get to the bottom of this mess.
I loved Gertie’s crusty take-charge attitude, yet there is definitely more to her than meets the eye. She leads such an interesting life in a small community, full of characters. One way or another, sure or unsure, she’s going to take life by the horns and live it. You never know what tomorrow might bring.
And all of her tomorrows are very full. Between Gertie’s problems with her family and the hot water she gets into with the law, there’s always some sort of action or drama unfolding. Mix in a well-plotted mystery and you have nothing short of good entertainment told Gertie’s way.
