1) Get a list of publications that accept article/poetry submissions. You can either buy the Writer’s Market book (Poet's Market) or search the internet to find publications that publish articles. There are web sites such as Writers Write, Freelance Writing, and New Pages that have a listing of ezines and print publications for writers.

2) When selecting a publication, it is important to read the web sites (magazines, ezines) content in order to get a feel for the kind of articles the editor publishes. Your poems, articles may not necessarily be suitable for every publication, and if you don't want to waste your time, and the editors, read what have already been published before you submit your work!

3) Follow the guidelines completely as they often vary from publication to publication. If an editor asks that writers not submit their works by attachments - do not attach your submissions! Just because you were able to do so for a particular publication doesn't mean you can do so for all. Ignoring guidelines in most cases will get your work deleted or thrown away.

4) Check your work thoroughly. Be sure you have no grammar or spelling mistakes. Once all above steps have been met, send your submissions!
