Breeds were created by some of the world’s top scientists to be the ultimate military machine. They mixed human genetics with some of the top predators in the world (lion, wolf, cougar, etc.) in order to make these advanced predators. Emotions and feelings were subsequently bred out of them so that only the killer remained. What they didn’t account for was Mother Nature sticking her fingers in and causing the Breeds to evolve. Now the Breeds have begun to escape the labs and start making communities of their own. Mica Toler, along with her Breed friend Cassie Sinclair, is part of a team that scans news stories concerning the Breeds before they go public. Mica is not a Breed though, but has honed the ability to mask her emotions. This ability is essential to her survival among the Breeds because her life is now in danger.

The Council, who first created the Breeds, is now after Mica. There hope is to capture her and in turn capture Cassie who is a unique Breed. They also want to capture Mica because of her budding relationship with a certain wolf Breed—Navarro Blaine. Navarro is a recessed Breed, which means that his animal genetics are deeply masked so that he is better able to mingle with humans. He was bred for the sole purpose of deception and infiltration.

The problem with Navarro though is that the animal within him is slowly awakening. Since meeting Mica many years prior, Navarro has not been able to think of anyone else. He knows Mica is his mate, but they both are too stubborn to admit their feelings. Now that Mica is in trouble, Navarro must convince Mica that she is his mate before the past rips them apart forever.

This by far has got to be one of the best series I have had the privilege to read. Lora Leigh does not disappoint with her latest in the Breed series. This series is steamy, thrilling and downright explosive in the action and love story between Mica and Navarro. I love seeing strong women who won’t back down from anyone let alone someone as strong willed and alluring as Navarro. Mica isn’t one to go for the pretty face or words, she’s drawn to Navarro’s strength and loyalty and their story is not an easy one. Ms. Leigh surely knows how to bring such wonderful characters to light and gives a wonderful story to each of her characters. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Leigh has in store for her next character, Lawe.
