Colonel Horatio Tallwood-Smythe has only recently inherited the title of sixth Viscount of Wentworth, but he must soon marry or lose all the money and assets left to him by the former Viscount. Horatio has, also, been named the guardian of the former Viscount's grandchildren-- another reason to find a wife quickly. Unfortunately, the latest crops of debutants leave Horatio cold, so he instructs his man of business to advertise for a wife. While visiting friends, Horatio aids a stubborn miss, who is dressed in men's clothes. Miss Anabel Satterley is a stubborn, independent woman, who returned to England disguised as a man, after her father disappeared, leaving her alone in Egypt. Anabel is traveling to her friend's house--the same house in which Horatio is staying. Horatio and Anabel feel an instant attraction, but Anabel doesn't fit Horatio's idea of the perfect wife.

Never Let Me Go is a charming romance with great characters. Unfortunately, the book's appeal is lessened by several instances of historical inaccuracy. The most glaring mistake being a title inherited through the mother's side of the family. Even with these mistakes, the developing relationship between Horatio and Anabel is enjoyable. Horatio's manner is rough-around-the -edges, because of his years of military service. When Anabel and his wards enter his life, Horatio slowly realizes that his life has been missing one key ingredient--love.

Never Let Me Go is a nice read, and I recommend it, if the reader is not a stickler for historical accuracy.
