Lady Amelia Plume isn't your typical regency miss-- she craves
adventure. Major Lucas Winter, a brash American officer, has come among
the hated English to secretly investigate an embezzler, who stole money
from a ship- fitting company and the U.S. government. Unfortunately,
Lucas suspects Amelia's stepmother of being involved in the crime. When
Amelia discovers Lucas's suspicions, she sets out to put obstacles in
his path. Because Amelia believes in her stepmother, she wishes to save
her the heartache and scandal of being investigated.
Ms. Jeffries seamlessly weaves interesting historical events into an enjoyable story with complex, human characters. Lucas is a tortured character with a troubled past, who must face his demons before he can be with Amelia. Amelia seeks adventure and finds it in spades with Lucas. During the story, Amelia grows and matures and becomes a true match for Lucas. Lucas and Amelia are an adventurous, well-matched pair and I look forward to the next book in the School for Heiresses series.
