Galen McMannus and Dawn Maybank are the unlikeliest of couples. Demons and humans aren’t supposed to fall in love, not in Dawn’s world, and not in the world of paranormal romance. Galen is a demon with an agenda, and Dawn is a Demon Tracker. They are on opposite sides not only of the law but it seems of the universe as well. This makes for a dangerous liaison that neither Dawn nor Galen can seem to end, even in the direst of circumstances.

When Galen approaches Dawn with an offer of a valuable artifact that her father has spent years searching for, her first and natural instinct is to fear him and his motives. But, when he insists on five nights in Dawn’s bed as payment for the artifact, she’s shocked to find herself not only agreeing to the bargain but eventually desiring it.

Despite Dawn’s best efforts, she finds herself falling under Galen’s spell. What is most unexpected is that Galen, a demon with no feelings other than anger and lust, is also falling hard for her. Demons do not fall in love, and these feelings Galen has developed for the Lady Dawn cause serious and unpleasant inner conflict for him as well as put a crimp in his real plans for her.

As Dawn’s fears begin to subside and she realizes she is in love with Galen, she finds herself protecting him from numerous people, para, and authorities anxious to capture and crystallize him. One of Galen’s instant enemies is Dawn’s twin sister Aurora. First impressions are not always accurate, though, and Aurora is not at all what she seems.

Night Mischief is a passionate and romantic story that takes the paranormal realm in to a dimension I was not familiar with. I feared the story would not end well, and the reason I read romance novels is for the happily ever after. However, this is fiction, and in the world of fiction, especially paranormal romantic fiction, anything can happen and within the first few chapters, I was convinced that Galen and Dawn could fall in love and be happy.

It took me a while to warm up to Galen, as I wasn’t quite sure of his agenda. The reason that he sought out Dawn was not made clear in the beginning, and although it was meant to be told that way, I found myself confused at times, questioning whether my interpretations were correct. However, nothing happened that wasn’t eventually explained in a way that made sense.

Nina Bruhns writes beautifully and poetically and made me a complete believer in Galen and Dawn’s passion. I am often set in my opinions, but Night Mischief gave me more of an open mind about paranormal romance, making me see that anything can happen in the world of fiction.
