Cicely Waters has come back to her hometown of New Forest, WA and is a changed woman. After a life on the run with her mother, she is ready to be able to settle down and find roots in her small town. Cicely is looking forward to finishing her training as a witch and learn more about her gifts of controlling the wind. As she is getting ready to head home, she has a phone call from a good friend. Several members of a local coven have gone missing and one has even turned up dead. The dead woman has had her throat torn out and died a gruesome death. She has also left Cicely most of what she owned.
Cicely learns the Indigo Court has taken over her town. In her research, she learns that the Indigo Court was formed long ago by vampires. These vampires tried to turn the dark Fae (the fairies) in order to harness their power. What they didnít realize was that by turning them, they turned them into more powerful beings. They were able to go into the sunlight (unlike vampires) and still retained much of their magical makeup. These dark Fae have waited patiently in the shadows and built up their strength and are now, with the help of Myst their queen, ready to take over the world.
Cicely is also reunited with Grieve, her Fae lover who has been enslaved by Mystís court. Torn between bringing Myst down and saving her lover, Cicely must make alliances with anyone who can help her, even if it means enslaving herself to the vampires.
I am a big fan of Yasmine Galenornís books. Her Otherworld series is wonderful and this new series featuring Cicely Waters is just another gem in her huge collection. Cicely is a strong and wonderfully written character. She has had to use her magic in order to survive her motherís run through the world and make it out alive. Now she is the only one who can save her town and bring it to order. Her love for Grieve is heart wrenching. She knows he is lost to her for the moment but she still has hope that she can free him from Mystís clutches. From start to finish, this book is a captivatingly wild ride in the world of magic, vampires and Fae. Two thumbs up for Yasmine Galenornís enticing new series.
