Mary Kate O'Reilly, a Catholic Irishwoman, agrees to go with her grandfather to England, in order to save her family's livelihood. Her grandfather, an English baronet, is determined to marry her off to an Englishman, so that she can have English children and he will have an heir. Little does her grandfather know, Mary Kate is a stubborn, feisty woman, who dislikes the superior-acting English. Mary Kate wishes only to return to her family in Ireland and after four years, thinks that she is finally returning to Ireland. Unfortunately, her grandfather tricks into boarding a ship and hires the captain to keep her captive and deliver her to a man, whom he has arranged to marry her. Fortunately for Mary Kate, Diego Montoya, a Spanish captain, takes the English ship, and Mary Kate is saved from the unwanted marriage for the time being. Diego, who is very honorable, tells Mary Kate that his government will ransom her and return her to her intended. Mary Kate is determined to work on Diego and get him to relent and help her.

Nobody's Saint is a very entertaining historical romance with an amusing plot and great characters. I found the characters of Nobody's Saint to be fully-developed -- they are definitely not cookie cutter characters. This is the third book that I have read by Ms. Reed, and all of her characters are well-developed and unique. I greatly enjoyed the interactions between rule-driven Diego and irreverent Mary Kate. Wow! Did she lead him on a merry chase! All in all, Nobody's Saint is a very enjoyable historical romance; I highly recommend it.
