Dear Readers:

Notorious is another book from the mind of New York Times bestselling author, Michele Martinez.

Her main character, Melanie Vargas, is the prosecutor assigned to the case of a controversial rap star that everyone in America seems to love. The man’s fans stand out in front of the courthouse holding supportive signs in their hands – as well as sit in the courtroom shouting out to the judge to free the poor, put upon man.

We open as the rap star’s lawyer, Lester Poe – a dashing older man who Melanie has a bit of a crush on – stands with her on the steps of the Federal Building and tells her that his client is willing to make a deal. He says his client not only has information on sleazy "kingpins" but also on a well known figure that the FBI would love to "nail." As soon as the information leaves Lester’s lips, he walks to his car. Melanie notices too late, the strange figure standing across the street glaring at Lester. As Lester’s car explodes, Melanie is thrown back on the pavement – and her life will never be the same.

In comes a ruthless lawyer, Evan Diamond, who is Lester Poe’s partner. He takes over the defense of the rap star that has suddenly changed gears. He claims there was no deal and he has absolutely no idea what Melanie is talking about. The young prosecutor is thrown into Diamond’s world and uncovers the secrets that must be kept quiet at all costs.

A wife mysteriously passes away. A paralegal with her own agenda decides to take the wrong side and could end up to be another in a long line of buried bodies. Who’s telling the truth? A lot like Survivor, can Melanie Vargas "outwit, outlast, and outplay" the sinister forces that seem to be gathering around her?

If you like suspense and are familiar with Martinez’s other books, you will be pleased with this story. Unfortunately, for me, it moved a bit slow at times and oddly enough, there weren’t very many surprises.

Amy
