Lt. Samantha Spade is the head of a team of scientists stationed in Texas that does research for the military. They research and test new technology that could make the militaryís job much easier. They get projects from scientists and others from all over the country that are trying to get government grants for their research. The latest project that Spade and her associates have received is a seemingly innocent pair of goggles. Upon further study these goggles are able to see around objects by means of strategically placed mirrors that bounce the pictures back to the goggles. Samantha can see the vast potential of these goggles to help the military. She decides to take them out for some testing on her own and while using them sees a man getting ready to shoot into a crowd of people.
Samantha is then thrust into a tale of mystery and deception and the people involved are not what they seem. She must use all of her training and expertise (and the use of some very valuable goggles) to sort through the mystery of the shooter.
Merline Lovelace does not disappoint with her latest addition in the Samantha Spade series. As I have said before, I donít usually go for the mystery books but I have found that I enjoy reading about Samantha Spade and her research for the government. I will say that I would like more romance between Samantha and Jeff in the story. Hopefully that will be in the next book. This is definitely a good addition to the mystery books in any library.
