Bryn Seymour was only nine years old when her mother died under very suspicious circumstances—the same day Apollo 11 had its historical moon landing. She managed to go on with her life and now, 40 years later, she is a divorced single mom working as an obit writer for the local newspaper. She meets a man named Howard who knew her mother. He’s a conspiracy theorist extraordinaire and he believes a small Texas town holds the clues to what really caused her death.

Bryn tries to ignore Howard and the ideas he has planted in her head. The longer she tries to ignore the thoughts, the more she realizes she needs closure for her mother’s death. She takes the long shot that Howard might really be able to help her discover what happened to her mother and she heads off to Marfa, Texas. Once she’s in Marfa, finding Howard proves to be more difficult than she imagined. Once she finds him, she also meets his son, Sam. Sam is and outspoken Christian whose ideas seem as crazy as his father’s conspiracy theory notions.

As Howard, Sam & Bryn work together to discover the truth about her mother’s death, she begins to have feelings for Sam. But having been weighed down by life for so many years, can she ever allow her spirit to love again and set it free to soar?

Bryn is a person who reminds me a lot of many people I know. She’s not the most chipper of people and the burdens of life have pulled her down. Sam has had similar burdens to weigh him down, but seems to be rising above it all. It’s so hard to understand how he can keep his spirits up with his father who appears to be crazy and all that has happened in his life. Then there’s Howard, who sounds totally crazy with just enough grains of truth thrown in to make you think that what he’s saying could really be plausible.

The whole mystery seems just one step out of reach for most of the book. In the final chapters, it turns to a house of cards crumbling and things become crystal clear…or do they?

Leanna Ellis has created quite a conspiracy filled story! It takes off from the first chapter with innuendos and clues hinting at a government plot and cover up. As Bryn researches more, things start to happen. Could they be coincidences or is it more of the government trying to protect their lies? I started reading the book wondering if there could be any grains of truth to the conspiracy theories she shares. I ended the book with many of the same questions swirling through my mind. I hope you’ll give this book a read and find out who will triumph. Will it be the government with their cover up? Will love be given wings to fly? Will Howard ever let go? All of these things are possible, but only once in a blue moon.
