The one night Kate Mulhoon shared with Santino Rossi five years ago will forever be etched in her mind. A big movie producer shows an interest in her and leaves her with a precious gift. One that she’s too afraid to share with him.

The inevitable happens and Kate and Santino’s paths cross again. She knows she should tell him he’s a father, but from all accounts, what she knows of him isn’t all that positive. Get to know him first, what type of man he is underneath, and then tell him about Francesca. That’s the plan. But best laid plans and all that…

At a cast party, Santino is stunned to learn he has a beautiful little girl. A little girl who has been kept from him. On purpose! His immediate thought is that Kate has to pay, and pay dearly. How dare she keep him from his daughter! Well, turn about is fair play and he follows through with taking steps to gain full custody of Francesca.

There seems to be no way around it. She doesn’t have the resources to fight him. If she can’t make him understand, her little Francesca is going to be taken from her. And her heart will be broken not only from the loss of her child, but from the unrequited love she has for Santino.

One-Night Baby is an emotionally charged story. I felt compassion for Kate with her heart at war with her mind and the knowledge that Santino needed to be told. Santino did deserve a happy ending, but I must say, he was a bit too arrogant at times and I cheered Kate on when she was able to one up him from time to time.

There was, however, one downside for me; I felt lost in the resolution. It happened so quickly it felt like I was missing something. Perhaps I was so involved that it snuck up on me.

Susan Stephens found a way of tapping into the reader’s emotions…She definitely tells a touching tale.
