Julia Preston has her life laid out before her...well, pretty much. She is the master of her own destiny...well, pretty much. She owns her own store so she is free to make her own decisions. She owns her own home and has a lot of friends. What more could she want?

Then why is it an old family legend involving a couple in love, a sword and a veil (with matching designs) keeps haunting her? Or why is it one night of passion with a masked man invades her thoughts? Further, why is it the legendary family veil almost wraps itself around her and makes her dream of her own wedding? Julia begins to believe if she tracks down and purchases the sword, which has been lost from this family tale she will finally end those haunting dreams. Plus, it must be time because some leads have come to her and she has the sword within her grasp. Only one hitch in all of her plans, however...it will cost her money she doesn’t have.

The building that houses her business is being renovated by the owner with the help of architect, Nick O’Brien. Nick is intrigued by the woman who is covered with the most beautiful veil he has ever seen. Granted she owns a boutique which specializes in lace from all over the world, but she is a vision covered that way. The added suspense is that she reminds him of one night of passion and emotion that he had hoped to forget.

With those memories added to her lace covered beauty, Nick takes on the extra project of giving her more space for her expanding business (all under the guise of spending more time with her). Together they discover a treasure in the wall and in each other.

I really enjoyed this book. In today’s world of fast paced, quick fix, this book was as refreshing as a spring rain. The traditional values that Julia holds to are an inspiration to young woman who are dreaming of love as well as a touch of grace for those woman who are a bit more mature and think love no longer exists. I was even drawn to the laces described in the book and wishing that I could actually be there in person to treasure them along with Julia. The characters were quite human and became your friends through the story and the scenery was so vivid, I had no trouble picturing it within my mind. There were only a couple of scenes that I found myself wondering about but it was short lived and quickly forgotten as you read on.

I found myself taking time out of my day to sit down with this book - - and I even broke out one of my great-grandmother’s tea cups, filled it with a fragrant tea and enjoyed a rainy afternoon.
