All alone now that her parents are gone, and penniless because of her uncle’s debts, Lady Kendra Townsend has been presented an ultimatum; marry the man her uncle has chosen or go to America to live with her mother’s sister (whom she’s never met and knows little about). Kendra is confident that God would not have her marry a man she does not love so her choice is America.
Dorian Colburn, captain of his own merchant ship can not believe his best friend and first mate has agreed to take on a passenger; especially when the passenger is a LADY. As you can image, the crew may get distracted with this particular passenger aboard.
During the voyage Kendra is drawn to Dorian and him to her. Dorian doesn’t want to be drawn to her; he loves his bachelorhood and life on the sea. You see, Dorian was trapped into marriage when he was younger which embittered him to all women; except it appears Kendra. Kendra is a genuinely kind and caring person has a devout unshakeable faith and needed a friend. Dorian could be her friend but that’s where he draws the line.
Unbeknownst to Kendra her family has concocted multiple schemes against her and when trouble appears all around her, it seems the only safe place is with Dorian. Dorian can no longer fight his feelings so they marry. But as you know when you overhear parts of conversations and assume you know your partner’s feelings; things can get kind of mixed up.
Sometimes God has an indirect way of bringing about His plan and this seems to be one of them. Will the plots against Kendra come to light and who could be behind it all? Will Kendra and Dorian share their hearts in time to save their love?
Pirate of My Heart is a tender yet exciting story. Many thoughts come to mind that I’m not sure I’ll be able to capture for you. Emotions run high from page one as Kendra and Dorian’s story unfolds. The depth of the characters gave me pause as Kendra’s faith and constant reliance on God made me thinking of my own faith. You could feel Dorian’s hurting heart and felt how he was struggling with his transformation. Dorian’s family were people you wish you could meet and become friends with. Ms. Carie’s writing was so descriptive you could feel the waves hit the ship and the mist in your face. And finally, one of the many inspirational messages that stood out to me was how much time we sometimes waste worrying about the future when God has given us life in the present.
A hunky "pirate" and a vulnerable yet loving heroine will make this story stay with you long after the last page is read, though an epilogue would have been nice to see what’s been happening to the Colburns’. So…I hope I’ve been able to make sense of my thoughts, though I’m sure I could go on and on.
