Barbara Plum’s first published work is sure to be a big hit. Prince of Frogs brings together an unlikely couple (he’s a widower, she’s a divorcee) with an even more unlikely meeting. This contemporary romance is a very lighthearted and fun look at modern day romance. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things our heroine, Dr. Risa Taylor, said and did. Underneath the lightheartedness of the book, I liked the point that love doesn’t see our insecurities, it sees us for the beautiful people we really are.

Without telling all of you anything to give it away, I thought the ending really took off. I literally could not put the book down and stayed up half the night to finish it up. It’s been a while since I’ve done that.

The only thing I disliked about the book, maybe dislike is too harsh. I found myself wishing the book was a little longer in order to give more details. I found many scenes jumped from one place to another or from one character to another without a transition. I had a difficult time following where the characters were and what they were doing.

I also wanted more information and development of the sub-plots. The secondary characters became very important to me and I wanted to have more from them as well. Maybe Ms. Plum will consider doing their story separately someday. Hmmm…..

Overall, I found this book to be a delightful diversion. Barbara Plum focused on the emotions and feelings of the characters so we could fully know them. She must have a great sense of humor for her characters to be so incredibly funny.
