Della Carmichael owns a cooking school in Santa Monica California. She also stars in a cable cooking show, and has agreed to be a panelist at a Celebrity Cook-Off Gala. Other panelists include Yvette Dupre and Keith Ingram.
Della soon learns that Keith Ingram has been having an affair with Eileen O’Hara, Della’s partner in Della’s Sweet Dreams School and a close friend of Della’s. Keith is looking to dump Eileen, but he has been filming Eileen without her knowledge and he is holding this over Eileen’s head. When Keith is found murdered, Eileen’s dad and police detective John O’Hara is immediately under suspicion.
The Proof Is in the Pudding is a fun cozy mystery, and Della is an enjoyable entrepreneur and sleuth. Her somewhat complicated relationship with Eileen and her family adds to the complexity of this book and the previous ones in this series.
The author has written a fun mystery with well defined characters who mesh together naturally. Della, John, Eileen and Della’s boyfriend Nick are all characters that you can relate to, and their personalities blend well.
Della is portrayed as a loyal friend who will work her hardest to get Eileen and John out of the predicament they have found themselves in. She is a strong woman who places a great deal of importance on her relationships, including the one with her boyfriend Nick.
