In this second book of Gray’s Families of Honor Series Ella’s mother passes away and Ella has to auction off her family’s farm. (Ella’s father passed away many years previously). Ella realizes that she cannot hope to manage a large farm on her own, and she moves into town. The new owner, Lyle Weaver has purchased the farm and is busy repairing her family’s old farmhouse that Ella always dreamed of doing herself.
But, he has a plan in mind to marry Ella someday and bring her back to her home. Lyle starts asking her for her opinion as to what he is doing to her old homestead and their friendship blooms into romance. When her best friend, Dorothy, implies that Lyle’s intentions are not honorable, Ella has second thoughts about marrying him. (Dorothy is not such a good friend after all).
Ella has to decide whether Lyle is telling the truth, although I wonder why he wouldn’t and she is faced with the choice of risking her heart for the love she has craved or going back into her shell and forgetting about Lyle and having the home she has always wanted.
A good read that readers will enjoy and look forward to book three in this series.
