Armando is a businessman with quite the empire of hotels. He loves the freedom he has in his life. And if nobody knows he’s also the Prince of Paradiso, so be it. He would rather be a businessman that a prince. He’s also more of a love them and leave them kind of guy than one who stays in a relationship for more than a couple weeks.
When Pamela meets Armando, it’s not in the best of circumstances. He saves her from a lecherous boss—now a former boss. When he realizes that she’s the designer who created the look he loves in the hotel, he hires her right away. Too bad he refuses to mix business and pleasure because when Pamela is around, he only thinks of pleasure.
Once he overcomes his mental obstacles and starts an affair with her, she doesn’t realize that he’s a prince and she is a hindrance to him receiving the throne. And when the former ruler of Paradiso dies, Armando has the decision of a lifetime to make. Will he choose his country, or his lover? Or will that choice be taken away from him forever?
Armando and Pamela’s story was quite the whirlwind and a very fast read…and the cover model is oh so yummy to look at! I really enjoyed getting to know Armando. He reminds me of so many of my own relatives. Ms. Hofman got the Middle-Eastern swagger of the men there down pat. She really nailed the take charge attitude and the mannerisms. It was refreshing to see a Middle-Eastern man who was just a man doing the best he can in life. His values and single-minded focus made him extra special.
Pamela is the girl next door caught up in a My Fair Lady situation. Before she knows what hit her, she’s totally involved with a man who is not just her boss, he’s also a prince. He’s a prince who can never be with her in a forever sense if he wants to inherit the throne. What is a girl to do? Do you let the man you may be falling in love with give up the biggest opportunity in his life for you or do you find a way to make it work so he can be the ruler of his country?
I want to interject here that I thought the middle portion of the book was too focused on the bedroom (hence the rating above) and not focused enough on characters and storyline. It caused me to question Pamela’s decisions because some of the choices Pamela made really surprised me. Based on what was happening in the bedroom, I didn’t think it was the path she would choose. But, I have to say she is such a wonderful person that as I learned the reasons for the surprising decisions, I understood why she did what she did. I just felt there was a section of the book that had the bedroom driving the story, not the story being driven to the bedroom. Other than that small section, I didn’t feel the bedroom scenes were too much or too graphic.
With so many obstacles before them, I was intrigued to see how everything finished up. I think you’ll enjoy the twists along the way as much as I did. Ms. Hofman has written a wonderful book about love, the power love has and the surprising things people will do for love.
